| Chief Muaythai instructor |
|
Mr. Terence Cheah Tien Loong
Terence is certified by World Muaythai Council (WMC), International Federation Muaythai Amateur (IFMA) as an instructor as well as a referee. He is also the senior disciple of Singapore’s Muaythai legend, Ajarhn Johnnie Yeo, founder of Hilltop Muaythai. At a time when Singapore had no Muaythai competitions, Terence, using his Muaythai skills and training fought in both amateur and professional Sanshou and Sanda (China’s version of full contact kick-boxing) matches. He won the national Sanshou championship in 2004 against opponents from all styles of Kungfu and other martial arts. Being a member of the Sanshou National Team in 2007/2008, Terence was sent to China to train with the world’s best Sanshou fighters. He has since fought professionally in several Sanshou and Sanda matches. Terence has also trained in several affiliated Muaythai camps in Thailand under the recommendation of Master Johnnie. These camps have trained many champions and Terence has had the privilege to be tutored by some of the world’s best Muaythai trainers (including the famed Ajarhn Surat) while training with some of the world’s best fighters. Today, Terence trains many young aspiring fighters from Hilltop Muaythai for the ring. Terence is also the current Singapore Muay Thai Team Manager and the Head of Operations of the Amateur Muay Thai Association of Singapore (AMAS). Terence also teaches at the United World College and the US Navy detachment in Singapore when he is not in the gym. Aside from fighting competitively, Terence also ran security in several of Singapore’s rougher disco clubs like Sparks and Fire for many years. He has invaluable and extensive “street” experience in handling rough characters unlike most martial arts instructors whose only claim to “instructor” status is a certificate. For those looking for Self Defense instruction, Terence has a lot to offer. You will learn about the myths of fights as well as all the dirty tricks that you will encounter on the streets. You stand a better chance of survival when you realize the difference between movie madness and the ugly reality. Terence, as an instructor is very precise and clear in his explanation of how a technique is to be performed. Under his tutelage, you can be assured he will impart the right techniques so you do not injure yourself in the long run. Most mass kickboxing aerobic classes involve participants simply imitating the movements of the instructors. Such improper execution of techniques will lead to long term injury of the joints and cartilage. For those who are seeking a fitter and stronger body, it only makes sense that this body should also be injury free. Terence is the ideal personal trainer in this aspect. Lastly for the few who wish to train for the ring, he has a wealth of experience to share. But please be warned that fighter training is very rough, injuries will be the norm and you will be expected to continue training despite your injury. The goal here will not be to simply make you a fit athlete. Rather, the training goal is to temper your bones so that you will not be crippled in a full contact match and to improve the power and precision of your strikes so that you may deliver crippling strikes. You will be sent to Thailand to train in addition to the training you receive here. Hilltop “THE GYM”, does not recommend the fighter program to anyone other than the hardcore. |
